Welcome to Tread Tajikistan!

What is Tread Tajikistan?

Who are we?

Tread Tajikistan is a not for profit, independently run website aimed at increasing Tajikistan's visibility in the Global Community and providing useful information to people interested in, or thinking of travelling to, Tajikistan.

Our goal is to provide visitors to our site with 'ground level' information, that they may not be able to get elsewhere, such as what to wear to a Tajik wedding, whether it's acceptable to blow your nose in public and how much a standard Marshrutka ride in Dushanbe usually costs.

In summer 2012, a group of VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas) volunteers headed to Tajikistan's Capital, Dushanbe as part of the British Government's 'International Citizenship Service' programme.

8 U.K volunteers and 12 Tajik volunteers spent 3 months working together as part of a larger effort by VSO to improve the livelihoods of Tajik people by promoting sustainable tourism and therefore improving the economic development of the country.

We are now back in the U.K and as part of our continued commitment to helping VSO achieve their goal of sustainable tourism in Tajikistan, two of the volunteers - Cressida Staddon and Shantel Kadir - have put together this website with some help from their U.K and Tajik friends, in order to give Tajikistan a bit more publicity and provide information and advice to those who are curious about what this amazing place has to offer.

Disclaimer: Although we have made every possible effort to provide accurate and up to date information throughout this website, most of the information found on this site has been gathered from the personal experiences of a number of VSO volunteers as well as the Tajik people they met and became friends with along the way. Consequently, we hope you appreciate that some of the information provided is likely to be subjective and that information may also vary depending on the area of the country you visit. If you do spot something you think is not quite right, we would be grateful for any feedback or corrections, which you can submit to us by visiting the 'contact' page or by emailing info.tajikistan@gmail.com
